HSG 264: Asbestos The Survey Guide
On 29th January 2010 the HSE released HSG 264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide. This document expands on and replaces MDHS 100. The document is aimed at those conducting Surveys, those who commission surveys and those with specific responsibilities for managing asbestos in accordance with Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2006.
Key Areas in HSG 264
Asbestos is a challenging subject for many Heads, Bursars and Maintenance Managers working in older schools.
Redhills, a leading UK consultancy, have developed a user friendly reference guide to help you remain compliant with current legislation. The guide is designed to answer and explain how to approach asbestos management and removal during daily tasks, during any building refurbishments, and provide the confidence to know how to deal with anxious parents.
The sorts of topic areas we have included are the ones most frequently asked:
What I need to know?
Who is accountable?
What plans do I need to have in place?
Who needs to know about asbestos?
How do I choose a good contractor?
The guide is designed to help you mange asbestos without incident. We have included some cards for your contractors, such as electricians and plumbers to remind them to think before they act at your school. Routine tasks can often be the cause of major incidents, closures and anxious parents.
Whilst you are not under any obligation to remove the asbestos, we can assist in providing managed solutions cost effectively.
We have established a direct call number on 01306 631820 for specific advice about your school, or alternatively download the Asbestos in Schools brochure here.
